So you've seen the Golden Gate bridge, taken a cable car ride and tasted the local sourdough..... what do you do next? Gourmet Walks, founded by Andrea Nadel, has added another gourmet adventure to its San Francisco culinary rambles: the Gourmet Japantown/Fillmore Tour. Guests who join the three-hour walking tour will make stops at seven local shops and restaurants, sampling some of the best treats from five different cultures: Japanese, Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and Indian. The one-mile tour is offered on Saturdays and Wednesdays at 1pm. Limited to 12 people, it begins at the Buchanan Street Plaza in Japantown, heads up to Pacific Heights and then descends down Fillmore Street before returning to the Japan Center. Tour participants will learn about the history of the country's oldest and largest Japantown and the 'Harlem of the West' of Fillmore Street. Guides share recipes and cooking tips along with stories about the growth of Asian cuisine in San Francisco.
