Culinary travel in southern India

In some countries you need someone to guide you and explain what you are seeing - and in the case of this tour – what you are tasting.

Tour leader Jacob Ikareth knows the area intimately, and on this journey with Marvel Tours through states of southern India, and eight or more regional cuisines, tour members will be glad they have someone who knows and understands the diverse and complex dishes they will be tasting.

Travel commences in Bangalore and ends in Chennai. If your idea of Indian food is based on Indian restaurants in the West, be prepared to be challenged and amazed by the diversity and array of flavours you will experience en route. On this trail, guests experience Gowda, Mangalore, Kodagu, Kerala Muslim Moplah, Syrian Christian, Tamil Brahmin, Chettinad, and Creole cuisines.

Along the way, Victorian architecture in Bangalore sits alongside high rise towers, imperial palaces in Mysore, colonial architecture in Northern Kerala, the list goes on. The tour group has entry into several Chettinad mansions that are not generally accessible to the public. In Pondicherry, a little bit of France remains in the architecture from colonial times. Auroville, a utopian city conceived in the mid-1960s designed and built by an international team over several decades on the fringes of old Pondicherry, by a philosophical movement figures in our trip from an architectural point of view.

This tour will take place in April 2017 and be repeated in September 2017.
