Food for good

The team at Eat My Lunch is well-known for the enterprise they began in 2015, with the aim of enabling Kiwis to help other Kiwis. This New Zealand-based team offered the dishes on a Buy One Give One plan, and it has been enormously successful.

In fact, it has been so successful and the dishes so delicious that they have been begged by diners to publish some of the recipes.

This book will delight those who love the whole concept and who also want to cook healthily in their own homes. Michael Meredith is an internationally acclaimed chef and restaurant owner, and he and his team are known for the salads, wraps, soups, dinners and sweet treats they have made available over the past few years.

As you would expect, the book contains a generous amount of recipes and is beautifully illustrated with full colour photographs. Let's start at the back of the book with the Treats such as white chocolate mousse with orange and mint, a simple dish. Or why not rice pudding with poached pears, or the addictive spicy dark snickerdoodles?

Savoury dishes include lamb kofta with tabouleh, a fragrant Thai pork stirfry, tagliatelle bolognese,  and chilli con carne with basmati rice. Multicultural salads star with a rare roast lamb and Israeli couscous salad, or an Asian salad with prawns and crisp nori.

Eat My Lunch is a thriving social enterprise, helping many New Zealand children, and it is a model that could be adopted by other countries with great success. Buying this book both helps and highlights the project as well providing home cooks with excellent and easy dishes to prepare at home.

Food for good, by Michael Meredith and Eat my Lunch, published by Allen & Unwin, October 2017, paperback, fully illustrated, rrp A$34.99.
