1080 Recipes

A totally different book, 1080 Recipes, by Simone & Ines Ortega, has been Spain’s best-selling cookbook for over 30 years, the one book every Spanish bride had to have in her kitchen, and now finally translated into English and published by Phaidon Press, rrp $69.95.

Now in its 48th edition, having sold more than two million copies, 1080 Recipes is a Spanish icon, packed with over a thousand recipes collated according to ingredients. Proof of this was that the launch was held at the Sydney residence of the Consul General of Spain, Enrique Sardá-Valls, while the Spanish Trade Commissioner, Mariá Gorriti also participated in the proceedings.

Most importantly 1080 Recipes contains classical Spanish recipes, the sort handed down through families, and accompanied by simple serving suggestions and photographs. To keep pace with today’s needs the book also includes menus from celebrated chefs, cooking tips and a glossary, and is set to become, for English-speaking cooks, a window into Spanish cookery which has until now remained closed.
