Amalfi Coast Recipes

We all love the place where we live, the part of the world we call home. But some places may be a little easier to love, and it seems that is definitely the case for ex-Sydneysider, Amanda Tabberer, daughter of fashion icon Maggie.

Amanda has carved out her own fashion career in Italy and over twenty years ago came to call the Amalfi Coast her home. She evocatively described her love for the area in her first book My Amalfi Coast and now she has gone a step further with this, her most recent book.

The food of an area is always a wonderful insight into how people live, and Amanda, as a local, has been able to sit at her friends' tables and beg their recipes. Better still, she has collected them into this bright and breezy book that shares the colour and verve of this very special part of Italy.

It's a deeply personal book, too. The various restaurateurs and cooks are each pictured along with their establishment and their featured recipes. Reading the book is like strolling from village to village, stopping for taste of baked cod and clam here, and some nut and anchovy dumplings further along, or perhaps some fish in 'crazy water' somewhere else.

In fact, you almost feel that when you finally next visit the Amalfi Coast you will have already 'met' so many of the locals!

In keeping with the generosity of Italian cooks, the dozens of recipes have been given open-handedly, complete with little tips and warnings of what should and should not be done. Just as the chefs' nonnas, and their nonna's nonnas, would have done for their families.

By adopting the Amalfi Coast as her home, and collecting this intimate collection of recipes, it seems Amanda has now opened the doors of the local kitchens to the world.

Buon Appetito (e grazie)!
