A food journey to the heart of Morocco, is the subtitle of this lavishly illustrated and truly beautiful book on one of the world's greatest cuisines.

Perfectly placed to put this book together is one of the world's best food-writers, the multi-talented and knowledgeable Andy Harris. A former editorial director of Australian Gourmet Traveller, he is now editor of Jamie Oliver's Jamie Magazine.

 

While Harris's attention to detail and breadth of food understanding makes this book such a success, photographer David Loftus's images bring the colour and vibrancy of this exotic destination. The combination of the talents of this duo results in a book that is as much a travelogue as a cookbook and will inspire you to travel to this magical country every bit as much as it will lure you into the kitchen to try some of the amazingly do-able dishes.

Melting mechoui lamb with crushed roast potatoes and tomatoes will possibly soon be a Sunday standard in many homes, while a snail-like tart of crisp almond-filled fillo will deal with sugar-fixes at any hour. There are soups and dips, condiments and breakfast offerings (some of them almost unheard-of, such as beghrir, like a thin crumpet, for instance) and a helpful glossary to decode the sometimes unfamiliar ingredients.

What a delightful book! We should all be glad that Andy Harris and David Loftus took that month out of their busy schedules to visit Marrakesh and bring back such sumptuously presented goodies.
