Dish it up

Be honest! We all fell for his youthful surfer-dude looks in the 2011 MasterChef Australia series, didn't we? These didn't hurt him either, when he entered (and won) Cleo's Bachelor of the Year 2012.

And he can cook too! What's more his active beaches-based lifestyle has given him a love for food that not only tastes sensational but which is good for him - and now, luckily - for his readers, too.

TV chef, Curtis Stone, has endorsed the book with this statement: 'This is the kind of food I love to eat'.

We will too. Soggy cereal for breakfast? Nah! Hayden has better ideas, such as coconut topped Bali-style pancakes, packed with bananas and drizzled with honey, or baked Spanish eggs with jamon. For the traditionalists he shares his own seed and nu-rich muesli recipe.

Like most of us, Hayden loves to travel and eat the food of other countries. But, like us, he knows he can't do that all the time, so there's a 'Travel Comes to You' section with DIY pad thai, nasi goreng, Vietnamese pho bo, ceviche and much more.

Hayden Quinn is also an outdoor guy, so there's plenty of food to cook or eat outdoors and even a whole section on dishes you can eat with your fingers! But channelling his MasterChef days, he made sure he included a section of fine food to cook at home as well as some rather decadent sweets. Anyone for churros? Or NYC cupcakes with bacon and maple syrup?

This lovely book, packed with great images, is laidback and friendly. Just like Quinn. And although it may focus on better, more health-conscious, eating, as the cover says, it's healthy food you'll love to share.

Dish it Up, by Hayden Quinn, published by Murdoch Books, Dec, 2013, paperback, rrp $ 35, ISBN: 978 17426 69939.
