Aoid travel glitches with Skyscanner

With more people returning to travelling worldwide, we may need reminders, or know if the rules have changed. Skyscanner has some useful hacks.

Be airport ready

Invest in some at home luggage weights, this will mean you can weigh your luggage as you’re packing and before you leave the house, avoiding any nasty surprises at the check-in desk.

Make sure your phone is fully charged when leaving for the airport, particularly as many travel documents are now digital. Carrying a portable charger pack is also a good idea, some airports do have charging points in the terminals but it’s always good to have a charger on you, so you’re not left on two percent.

Checking-in

To avoid the stress of queues, we recommend checking in online and downloading your boarding pass onto your phone ahead of arriving at the airport. This means you can head straight to the baggage drop and security, by-passing the check-in lines.

Arrive at the airport with enough time

With travel picking up we’re now seeing longer queues at airports meaning we’ll need to allow for more time to make it through check-in and security. We’d usually recommend getting to the airport at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international flights.

Skyscanner’s live departures and arrivals board is also a handy tool to have at your fingertips, with real time information on arrivals and departures at all major Australian airports.

Be ready at security

Over one-third (35%) of Aussies have had to remove or discard something from their carry-on luggage due to it not adhering to the rules when going through airport security.

To avoid this stress, Skyscanner recommends separating all liquids, medications and digital devices (such as laptops and tablets) prior to arriving at the airport or at least before you get to the front of the line at the security screening.

Investing in a wheeled, hand luggage suitcase with a front zip pocket is an easy way to separate your liquids and important documents so they’re within easy reach for when you need to remove items at security, and don’t forget to take any hats, coats and belts off before you walk through the gate.
