It's everyone's pipe-dream, isn't it? To live on an island and escape the stress of city life. Better still, make the island a Greek one - in the sapphire blue Aegean Sea. Best of all was the choice made by Australian-turned-Londoner artist, designer and photographer, Claire Lloyd, to move her entire home and life to Lesvos. Here in her dream come true she immediately felt at home, settling into a new country, a new language and a rhythm of life she could have only dreamt of in her previous fast-paced life in London. More than a travel book, this part-memoir, part accolade to a small community which she has joined is a joyous discovery of the sort of life we all wish we could attain. Claire Lloyd's beautiful photographs speak as much about the essence of the island as does her text. There are a few recipes, although food is never far from the surface in the talks with her new-found island friends. Seafood, fruits, breads, baked and fried delicacies crowd the tables she shares. 'island time' and those city stresses become even further removed. A delightful book to sink into and fantasise about a life such as this.
