David Thompson, the celebrated chef of Nahm in Bangkok and Long Chim in Singapore, has been named the 2016 recipient of The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award. The honour is part of the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards programme, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, and voted for by members of The Diners Club® Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, comprising over 300 leaders in the restaurant and culinary industries throughout Asia. David Thompson formally received his award at the fourth annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony on 29th February 2016. Australian- born Thompson has earned a reputation as a world authority on Thai food. A staunch culinary traditionalist, David is known for tracking down centuries-old cookbooks of former Thai matriarchs to revive the bold flavours of authentic Thai cuisine. After launching several successful Thai restaurants in Sydney, 2001 saw the opening of Nahm in London. Housed in the boutique Halkin Hotel, within six months Nahm became the first Thai cuisine kitchen to be awarded a Michelin star. In 2010, Thompson expanded the Nahm concept to Bangkok, taking residence at The Metropolitan Hotel by Como. In 2014, Nahm claimed the No.1 position on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list, confirming Thompson’s reputation as one the region’s most respected chefs. |
