LOCAL DRINKS: Shimiin Arkhi distilled from kefir, airag fermented mare's milk, salted milk tea

NEED TO KNOW: When offered food, it is considered rude to refuse it. Eat food on ly with the right hand. 

FESTIVAL FOODS: Mutton cooked inside a can in the coals of a fire.

UNUSUAL FOODS: Horse meat is readily available.

HEALTHY EATING: Many dishes are very high in fat. Vegetarianism is difficult as the diet is meat-based with few vegetables.

BREAD: Barley, rye wheat or corn breads made in the Italian style, Vienna loaf, pita bread.

CHEESE: Njegu�ki sir, is a special cheese stored in oil, several other cheeses from unboiled milk.

POPULAR DISHES: Boiled lamb, lamb cooked in milk, polenta with skorup (salted compressed fresh cream), dolma, bean stew with sausages, octopus, squid, mussels.

OTHER DISHES: meat broths, vegetable chowders, barley porridge and mushroom porridge, meatballs, stuffed capsicums.

LOCAL DRINKS: Pomegranate juice, Turkish coffee, mineral water, boza (malted fermented grains), Nik�i?ko Beer, plum or apple brandy, wines.
