If you visit Tasmania in, oh, about five years' time, you may be able to stay here, enjoying cantilevered grandstand views of nearby Mt Wellington or the Derwent River. This is the long-rumoured on-site hotel project of Tasmania’s Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) nicknamed ‘Motown’. Current plans include a five-star, 176-room hotel with outdoor concert stage, indoor theatre seating for a thousand-plus people, day spa facility, conference rooms, restaurant and bar. Much more is mooted and, given MONA's emphasis on art, you could expect galleries, interactive art experiences and endless exhibitions. Here's hoping all this gets off the ground (literally!) and also that the Venice-style access plan for guests, using specially designed motoscafi ferries, eventuates. |
