Two of Britain’s seaside resorts have been voted into the top ten of TripAdvisor’s 2014 Travellers’ Choice Best Destinations in the UK.
Torquay, Devon, in south-west England, has stormed into third place, coming in just behind London and Edinburgh at numbers one and two respectively (London was also voted third best destination in the world at TripAdvisor’s 2014 Travellers’ Choice Best Destinations in the World). Known as the English Riviera, thanks to its palm trees, harbour, marina, beautiful beaches and coastal views, Torquay continues to innovate. The Abbey Sands development will offer spectacular views from luxurious holiday-let apartments, while a collection of shops, restaurants and cafés within the new building will include prestigious restaurant group Le Bistrot Pierre. The iconic Agatha Christie Festival held in Torquay every year, the birthplace of the world-famous Queen of Crime, is being relaunched as an international literature festival, based at the restored 800-year old Torre Abbey close to Torquay’s waterside. Celebrations will also include the whole English Riviera throwing its usual party with dressing up, murder mysteries, cocktails, dancing and visits on the steam train and boats to Agatha Christie’s holiday home, Greenway, on the River Dart.
The north Wales seaside town of Llandudno has also made it into the top ten (number eight), its two spectacular beaches perfect for beach frolics and picnicking. This seaside resort has maintained the elegance of its Victorian and Edwardian influences and cherishes British seaside traditions. Take a stroll along the longest pier, ride on Britain’s only cable-hauled tramway and check out the views from Britain’s longest passenger cable car. |
