Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014

Celebrating one year to go until the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, a series of scenic Scotland photographs has been released showcasing the dramatic landscapes that can be enjoyed by visitors as the country prepares to welcome the world in 2014.

Visitors to Scotland can take inspiration from the nine landscape portraits by Scottish photographer John Young, commissioned by Glasgow 2014.   Each image captures a different aspect of Scotland's identity - from its natural beauty, historic landmarks, iconic sporting fields of play or its connections with the Games themselves.

As Glasgow and Scotland count down to one of the biggest occasions in Scottish sporting history, a 16 foot tall inflatable Number One was pictured visiting various locations: from the beautiful backdrop of Glen Etive (featured in the last Bond movie, Skyfall) to the breathtaking elegance of the Edinburgh skyline, and the iconic greens of St Andrews.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games is just one of the major events taking place in Scotland during the year-long Homecoming 2014 celebrations, which also include the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

The images will be shared across 71 nations and territories as Commonwealth Games Associations prepare to mark the one year to go date, on which a spectacular Opening Ceremony will officially launch the start of a great sporting occasion for 4,500 of the world's top athletes.
