New Zealand's best restaurants, 2015

It's that time of year when the world's restaurant  awards are announced. New Zealand may not have a large population, but the locals love good food.

It’s something they’ve known for a while, but now Christchurch is officially THE place to visit for the best food in New Zealand. Lyttelton restaurant, Roots, was recently named Cuisine Magazine’s New Zealand’s Restaurant of the Year 2015, as well as receiving the Innovation Award

Roots is a small restaurant in the port town of Lyttelton featuring an open kitchen, two dining rooms and a private courtyard. The degustation menus are crafted from high quality ingredients sourced from sustainable local farms Celebrating seasonality and what the region's ever-changing environment has to offer, Chilean-born chef, Giulio Sturla grows iproduce in his garden, or simply forages nearby for other ingredients.

Opened in 2012, Roots has gained popularity and a strong reputation over the past couple of years as a restaurant at the forefront of the new "locally focused" food revolution. With a plethora of ingredients within a small distance in Canterbury, chefs are spoiled for choice.  

It is no wonder more and more Christchurch restaurants like Shop Eight, Harlequin Public House and Brick Farm, joining the movement.
