Travel Your Way

Do you feel as if you have forgotten how to travel? After over two years, now that borders are opening and with restrictions loosened, it all seems a little unreal. Many of us may even be feeling a little nervous.

For those who were used to making several overseas forays each year; who kept a suitcase primed with the ‘basic travel kit’; had annual travel insurance, and the passport primed – the long lockdown might have thrown you a little.

Fear not! Just when you need it, a new book has reached the bookshelves: Travel Your WayWhat’s more it is angled at future travel.

Whatever your views on Covid, most agree that the pandemic has altered our attitude to many things, and this author acknowledges that, but also provides some challenging and helpful tips for braving this new world.

Travel Your Way is unique in that rather than providing nuts and bolts information about where and when to go, what to see and buy, and all sorts of tourism-alia, this author addresses the philosophy of travel: leaving home in body and in mind, learning to trust (your instinct, and other people) and, for lengthy trips, how to keep the flame of wanderlust alive.

If this has made the book sound too text-bookish – my apologies. It is not that at all.

In fact Travel Your Way has the unique addition of a Travel Practice page at the end of each chapter. Here, the author challenges readers to many aspects of travel: thinking deeply, empathising with locals, accepting differences more readily, and much more.

Each chapter is packed with anecdotes and memories. The author’s continuing joy of travel - even though he has been investigating the corners of the world for many years, even taking up residence for a while - has not diminished, and his exuberance  comes through in each  chapter.

So, how about you? Have you begun to look for your passport, dust off your suitcase, and perhaps even book a trip? Whatever else you do, make sure you prep yourself by reading this book. It will deepen your understanding and enjoyment of each and every future destination.

But beware. It will make those itchy feet of yours unbearable!
